Your Opportunity The Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Analyst is responsible for providing GIS services to external and/or internal clients in a shared services environment. Work will focus on supporting Environmental Services projects. The GIS Analyst determines client needs and proposes optimal GIS and geospatial technologies and solutions to meet business needs.
This is an exciting opportunity for a full-time position working within our Environmental Services business operating unit. Position can be remote, within close proximity to one of the following locations: Irvine, CA; Pasadena, CA; Portland, OR; Redding, CA: Sacramento, CA; San Diego, CA; Thousand Oaks, CA; Bakersfield, CA; Fresno, CA . The positions will be joining an existing dynamic 5-person GIS group to support exciting projects across the western United States. The desired candidate should be well rounded across the entire GIS platform.
Your Key Responsibilities - Apply GIS theories, principles, and software to efficiently meet project demands throughout the project life cycle.
- Acquire, process, and develop data for a variety of project needs.
- Complete both basic (e.g., georeferencing) and complex (e.g., suitability modeling, weights of evidence) desktop GIS tasks and analyses in support of diverse projects.
- Configure and develop mobile data collection and web-based applications
- Create cartographic output, both dynamic and static, with a keen eye for aesthetics.
- Design and manage project-specific spatial databases in accordance with defined data management standards.
- Balance a high level of creativity with adherence to established Stantec GIS standards and best practices.
- Leverage ArcGIS Platform to create comprehensive project GIS solutions.
- Collaborate with geospatial (GIS, CAD, survey, remote sensing, etc.) staff members across the company.
- Be persistent and diligent about quality, both in one's own work and the work of others.
- Maintain a high regard for personal safety and the safety of others.
- Actively engage in the greater GIS community, both locally and beyond, staying aware of the state of practice, new tools and technology, and opportunities for growth.
Qualifications Your Capabilities and Credentials - Reasonable understanding of GIS theory and principles.
- Experience working with and applying the Esri ArcGIS suite of tools: ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online (including Dashboards, Experience Builder, StoryMaps, HubSites), ArcGIS Enterprise, and mobile data collection applications (Survey123, Field Maps, QuickCapture)
- Strong foundation in data acquisition, data management, data analysis, data models and data editing.
- Understanding of coordinate systems, projections, and transformations.
- Cartographic skills for both desktop and web-based maps.
- Familiarity with GIS / CAD data interoperability
- Understanding of remote sensing general principles and applications (e.g., LiDAR) and experience using derived data products (e.g., las dataset, DEM, DSM)
- Basic experience with python and Arcade to automate tasks and/or strong interest in developing python scripting skillset
- Prefer familiarity with risk costs, suitability assessments, hazard modeling,
- Prefer familiarity with 3-D visualization techniques within ArcGIS Pro.
- Prefer familiarity with hydrology and hydraulic modeling data input and output.
- Prefer familiarity with meteorological, climate change, and geomorphological data.
- Possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record.

Education and Experience - BS/BA or an advanced degree in GIS, environmental science, geology, geomatics engineering, geotechnical engineering, or related field with demonstrated GIS training or coursework.
- A minimum of 1-4 years of professional applied experience providing GIS services.
- Prior experience within a consulting environment is preferred but is not required.
- Specific experience providing innovative GIS services and solutions within the Environmental Services, Water Resources, or Transportation business sectors will be considered a strength but is not required.
Typical office environment working with computers and working at a stationary desk for long periods of time. Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.

Salary Range(s): - SF Area $34.57 / Other CA Areas $30.19 - SF Area $50.14 / Other CA Areas $46.97 Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in CA (SF Area includes SF, SJS & WLC)
The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
