Position Summary Gain unique experience in water utilities by learning from a team of GIS professionals. The GIS Intern will be an integral team member, showcasing strong organizational skills, diligence, and an enthusiastic energy for spatial systems. Under the supervision of the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Supervisor or Manager, the GIS intern is responsible for capturing Global Positioning System (GPS) points for assets and facilities; maintaining equipment and processing spatial data; creating cartographic map products; and performing other related duties as required. This position requires working in a variety of environments while performing data collection to ensure the highest level of data accuracy and integrity. Specific Responsibilities Perform field data collection using GPS equipment Locate assets and enter attribute information into mobile applications Perform general research and conduct field verification to ensure data is accurately captured in the GIS system Prepare maps using ArcGIS software Perform data input and editing of existing spatial and tabular data using GIS desktop software May perform other duties as assigned Required Knowledge Skills & Abilities Proficiency in geographic principles and geographic information systems; knowledgeable of coordinate systems, GPS standards, and map scales Willingness to learn and the ability to stay motivated when faced with challenging or repetitive assignments Proactive problem solver with the ability to complete tasks as instructed Familiarity with Esri Enterprise software, including, but not limited to ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Pro, FieldMaps, or similar software Proficiency in Windows operating system and Microsoft Office suite Desired Qualifications Strong ability to comprehend oral and written instructions to manage assignments Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others Ability to develop familiarity with engineering design, perform spatial analysis, and input infrastructure information into enterprise geodatabases Ability to develop technical skills through on-the-job training Required Education and Experience High school diploma required Pursuing a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in GIS, Geography, or a closely related field Other Requirements Ability and desire to walk on varied terrain outdoors Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds of GPS equipment and hardware Must have valid CA driver’s license EEO Statement Our company provides equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or genetics. #J-18808-Ljbffr CTwater
