Summary Statement The Mayor's Office is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented intern to join our Government Affairs team with a specific focus on transportation issues. This internship provides a unique opportunity to gain experience in local government research, policy analysis, and initiatives specifically related to transportation, helping support the City's vision of Movement for Everyone. You will play a critical role in supporting the team with researching emerging transportation issues, analyzing legislation and proposals, and preparing informative briefings for the Mayor and senior staff.
This position is designated as At-Will.
Essential Functions - Conduct in-depth research on a variety of transportation issues facing the city, including public transportation, traffic congestion, alternative transportation options (e.g., biking, walking), and infrastructure development.
- Analyze proposed legislation and policies related to transportation, identifying potential impacts on the city's infrastructure, residents, and businesses.
- Prepare concise and informative briefings summarizing research findings and policy recommendations for the Mayor and senior staff, with a specific focus on transportation solutions and best practices.
- Attend relevant government meetings, public hearings, and transportation-focused events to gather information and stay abreast of current issues.
- Assist the Government Affairs team with special projects and initiatives related to transportation, such as grant proposals or public outreach campaigns.
- Maintain a high level of organization and attention to detail.
Requirements Required Knowledge and Experience:
- Experience or interest in public policy research and ability to quickly comprehend local and state government processes.
- Ability to stay organized and project manage multiple things at once
- Excellent writing and communication skills as well as the ability to synthesize complex information from a variety of sources.
Internship Requirements:
To be eligible for the City of Boise Internship Program, applicants must be:
- Undergraduate or graduate students with a strong academic record or graduated in the last 12 months from an accredited university
- Demonstrated knowledge of urban planning, political science or related fields either through academic setting or previous experience
- Be able to work up to 20 hours per week.
- Be able to commit to atleast one semester of internship program.
