Job Description
Summary
The Law Clerk Intern works in the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office. Under the direction of the District Attorney and Deputy District Attorneys, the Law Intern will assist with various aspects of prosecution. The Law Clerk Intern is mentored by District Attorney and the Deputy District Attorneys.
Distinguishing Characteristics
The Law Clerk Intern position is a temporary, non-benefited position through an outside temporary employment agency. Law Clerk Interns in their first year of law school are expected to learn the prosecution philosophy of the office, listen to jail calls, research, prepare memorandums and assist with cases. Law Clerk Interns in their second year or third year of law school are expected to have the knowledge and skills to appear in court and gain hands-on experience with motions, trials and investigations.

Qualifications
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree and completion of one or two years of Law Degree at an accredited law school; knowledge of criminal law and procedures. To assist in court must have completed two years of law school and been admitted to practice law by the Oregon Supreme Court pursuant to the Student Appearance Rule. This certification must be obtained prior to being assigned criminal cases for court appearance purpose.
Licenses and Certificates
Must have a valid Oregon Driver’s License within 30 days of hire date. Must have an acceptable driving record.
Physical Abilities
Able to sit or stand at a desk, work at a computer screen and use rapid finger, hand and arm movement for extended periods of time. Ability to stand and move about Courtroom for extended periods of time. Ability to speak effectively and clearly.
Working Conditions
Work is performed indoors and outdoors where some safety considerations exist from physical labor and handling of light-to-medium weight, yet, awkward materials.
Probationary Requirement
Not applicable to this position. Law Clerk Interns are employees of an outside employment agency and are not employees of Jefferson County.
Salary
$25.00 per hour (part-time)
