Summary:
The Occupational Health Nurse provides U.S.-based employees access to medical and health services to ensure safe, efficient, and productive operations and optimal employee relations.

Primary Responsibilities for Role:
  • Provide nursing care for occupational and non-occupational injuries and illnesses via symptomatic treatment, medical assessment, first aid, emergency transport, medical referrals, and follow-up and rehabilitation.
  • Coordinate pre-placement physical exams, ongoing health assessments, employee health counseling, and wellness coaching.
  • Administer the Hearing Conservation Program, including audiometric testing, health education, referrals, follow-up, and evaluation of hearing protection compliance.
  • Manage the Vision Testing Program, including vision testing, referrals, recommendations on protective equipment, and evaluation of visual capabilities per job requirements and cGMP standards.
  • Provide occupational health services to plasma center locations in the U.S., including telephonic triage of injuries to determine care levels.
  • Work with Employee Relations on the Reasonable Suspicion protocol and provide after-hours on-call services periodically.
  • Create and maintain medical records, including employee medical files, industrial hygiene monitoring records, workers’ compensation forms, disability records, medical surveillance logs, and return-to-work notes.
  • Administer the Respiratory Protection Program, including arranging testing, physical examinations, education on protective equipment use, and compliance evaluation.
  • Collaborate with Health Management Services management on budgeting, supply procurement, and evaluation for cost, quality, and service.
  • Conduct new hire assessments and orientations as needed.
  • Serve as a rotating on-call staff member for all U.S.-based operations.
  • Work with the Return to Work Case Manager on certain cases, including case management of claims, and interaction with injured workers, HR, and medical providers.
  • Coordinate the Employee Assistance Program and work/life balance activities by liaising between employees and contractors, reviewing service quality and results, and recommending program improvements.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Manage immunization programs, including administering job-related vaccines (e.g., Hepatitis B, Rabies, Tetanus, and Diphtheria) per CDC guidelines.
  • Conduct testing to determine the need for further injections or titers.
  • Serve as a lab lead, supporting QA and R&D lab operations and performing venipuncture at nearby sites.
  • Respond to on-site emergencies, coordinate emergency transportation, and provide appropriate medical referrals after initial treatment.
  • Stay current with occupational health field changes by attending professional organization meetings.
  • Make regular rounds through manufacturing, plasma, and support areas to maintain or increase awareness of these areas.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of occupational health, CPR, emergency first aid, immunology, ergonomics, and experience with industrial hygiene monitoring.
  • Reports directly to the Clinical Nursing Supervisor and serves as the site expert for medical decisions.
  • Consults with the national medical consultant but is expected to make decisions based on directives, legal requirements, precedent, and experience.
  • Regularly interacts with physicians providing non-occupational and occupational medical care and rehabilitation, discussing work restrictions and job placement, often requiring sensitivity and operational impact.
Required Education and Experience:
  • Graduation from an accredited BSN or ADN program; state licensure required.
  • 3-5 years of experience in Occupational Health Nursing, medical assessment, emergency care, clinic work, or public health nursing.
  • Licensure to practice nursing in California (depending on location); COHN-S or COHN certification preferred.
Occupational Demands:
  • Work is performed in an office and clinical environment with potential exposure to biological fluids and infectious organisms; PPE such as eyewear and gloves required.
  • Exposure to electrical office equipment; frequently sits for 4-6 hours/day, performs duties standing, and occasionally walks.
  • Frequent bending, twisting, lifting, and carrying of objects up to 35 lbs.
  • Potential travel to other facilities in the Los Angeles area; mileage reimbursed.
  • Must effectively communicate complex information and work independently with minimal guidance.
  • Frequently interacts with others and works with diverse groups to achieve consensus on sensitive issues.

Pay Rate Range: $30-45/hr depending on experience
