Job Title: Production Director/On-Air Talent

Department: Programming

Reports To: Operations Manager

FLSA Status: Exempt (PRO)

Location: Cleveland, OH

The role will provide direction, organization, creativity, and strategy regarding talent, promotions, and production necessary to produce a marketable radio station.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee the quality of all on-air production.
  • Assign and direct on-air staff in the production of commercials for clients.
  • Read and edit material from clients to ensure conformance to commercials and promotional announcements.
  • Provide creative support to the sales department and clients concerning commercials and promotional announcements.
  • Coordinate the traffic department and sales staff to expedite radio commercials and rotation of commercials according to client or sales department specifications.
  • Professionally deliver all relevant information on an ongoing basis, including time checks as needed, temperature checks, and event information.
  • Competently display knowledge about the music that is played, including in-depth knowledge of the music being played and all related issues.
  • Contribute and support the creation of the show daily, including participation in weekly aircheck sessions and daily pre-show content prep.
  • Appropriately implement all assigned duties on air, including pre-show and live interviews, writing scripts, attending station conferences, functions, and events, researching background material.
  • Track and correct daily commercial discrepancy reports.
  • Provide reports as needed on all relevant information relating to programming.
  • Professionally appear in public when and where required, including participation in station remote broadcasts, preparation as required, representation at charity events, community events.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor all relevant department policies & procedures.
  • Attend weekly Management, Promotions, Sales, Music, and Announcers meetings.
  • Assess and resolve operational concerns for the team.
  • Ensure effective communication cross-platform.
  • Participate in relevant skill-building workshops that apply to ongoing development.
  • Stay current with all relevant industry information updates.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Must be a creative thinker and possess a high level of people skills. Ability to be multi-tasked, flexible, and work long hours including some weekends, evenings, and holidays.
  • Ability to read and analyze business practices, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to operate boards, remote, and online equipment.
  • Assist as needed with the programming department in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Lead interviewing, hiring process, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance reviews for direct reports; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Ability to prepare reports, business correspondence, and ensure policy and procedure adherence.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to define problems, assess data, and interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Complies with Network and Urban One’s mandatory on-time and adheres to related course deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and direct a team.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Associate degree (AA) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school preferred; five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
