Leidos is seeking a full-time Research Epidemiologist to support the Deployment Health Research Department at the Naval Health Research Center in San Diego, CA. This position will support the Department of Defense (DoD) Birth and Infant Health Research (BIHR) team in their goal to examine reproductive health outcomes among military families and explore possible relationships between military service and reproductive health. The databases used by the BIHR program include large, DoD administrative and medical encounter/claims data that capture information on pregnancies and live births among military families.

The Research Epidemiologist will work closely and collaboratively with Principal Investigators, epidemiologists, analysts and study coordinators to support efforts across the full research project lifecycle. In order to successfully represent the research program at meetings, conferences, and working groups, the Research Epidemiologist must have excellent interpersonal skills to facilitate collaborative research, form expert opinion, and discuss policy decisions.
This is currently a hybrid position and employees are expected to come on-site to the Naval Health Research Center in San Diego a minimum of 1 day a week. This is subject to change in the future based on contract requirements. Primary Job Responsibilities:
- Participate in all aspects of epidemiologic research, to include study design, analysis, manuscript preparation, and presentation and delivery of study findings at professional meetings and/or in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
- Use administrative medical encounter and claims data, including ICD and CPT codes, to develop complex algorithms and identify outcomes and covariates of interest.
- Use Statistical Analysis System (SAS) software to manage and analyze large datasets.
- Design and develop research proposals for funding, including statistical analysis plans.
- Effectively deliver research briefings on technical topics to stakeholders including government officials; military medical, policy, and line leadership; funding sponsors; and the general scientific community.
- Identify and foster partnerships with collaborators (e.g., military residents and physicians, academic researchers) who are subject matter experts in specialized fields of maternal, infant, and pediatric health.
- Participate in scientific activities or meetings representing the BIHR team, the Department, and NHRC.
- Serve as a representative for the BIHR team to senior military and other visitors, and in professional settings, both within the Department and externally.

Required Education and Experience:
- Master's degree in public health, epidemiology, or related field
- Minimum of 3 years' experience successfully proposing, leading, conducting, presenting, and publishing relevant research
- At least three peer-reviewed publications
- Advanced knowledge of SAS
- Extensive training in epidemiologic research methods and advanced statistical techniques
- Excellent organization skills
- Due to federal contract restrictions, candidate must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain a Secret Clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- PhD in public health, epidemiology, or related field
- Experience analyzing large datasets (>500,000 observations)
- Experience in pediatric and/or perinatal epidemiology
- Experience in health services research
- Experience working with data from the Military Health System Data Repository

Pay Range: Pay Range $81,250.00 - $146,875.00
